IIA News | "Open China" signed in London, UK


On April 18, a signing ceremony for international publishing cooperation on China-themed books such as Open China, sponsored by China Foreign Language Bureau and hosted by Foreign Language Press, was successfully held at the London International Book Fair 2023 in the UK.

More than 20 guests from China and abroad attended the event, including Lu Cairong, Deputy Director General of the China Foreign Language Bureau, Wang Qi, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Dennis Kzidze, Editor-in-Chief of Canute International Publishing Company of Turkey, and leaders of various units under the China Foreign Language Bureau. Zheng Yongnian, author of Open China, professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and director of Qianhai Institute of International Affairs, delivered a video message by VCR. Hu Kaimin, President and Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Languages Press, presided over the signing ceremony.

Lu Cairong said in his speech that the translation and publication of books on Chinese themes, such as "Open China", provides a window for readers at home and abroad to understand how China develops itself and wins with the world in an open posture. Both China and Turkey are ancient civilizations with a long history and culture, and they are also important partners in building the "Belt and Road" together. Through the international collaboration mechanism, strengthening the publishing cooperation between the Foreign Languages Publishing House of China Foreign Languages Bureau and the Turkish Canute International Publishing Company, and deepening the cultural exchange and mutual appreciation between China and Turkey with an open attitude, will help the two countries to know each other and win together, and promote the construction of the Silk Road of humanistic exchanges in the new era.

At the signing ceremony, Foreign Languages Press signed an international publishing cooperation agreement with Turkey's Canute International Publishing Company for a total of 16 items of paperbacks and e-books of 8 titles, including Open China, which will translate and co-publish a variety of Chinese-themed works in Turkey, including Open China, to meet Turkish readers' concerns about China's deepening reform and opening up. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Lu Cairong, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Language Bureau, Wang Qi, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, and other leading guests.
